Objections to battery energy storage facility

A CAMPAIGN is underway in Ballaghaderreen to prevent the construction of a battery energy storage facility on the outskirts of the town.

Planning permission has been granted by Roscommon County Council for the facility, which is located on lands adjacent to Kilcolman estate.

Campaigners have highlighted the fact that Longford County Council refused planning permission for a similar battery energy storage system, citing the possible risk of explosion, fire hazard and threat to public health.

The Stop Ballaghaderreen Monster Battery Storage Facility campaign is hoping to have the planning decision reversed.

A public meeting will be held upstairs in Spells this Thursday, February 7, at 7.30 p.m.
