Travel advice for fans ahead of Mayo v Cavan match
MAYO and Cavan fans have been given advice for a safe kick-off for the National League game in Elverys MacHale Park, Castlebar, next Saturday.
A huge turnout – possibly up to 10,000 – is expected for the joust which gets underway at 7 p.m.
Fears have been raised of possible injuries as fans leave and return to their vehicles under cover of darkness.
Road safety officials from Mayo County Council are advising fans heading for MacHale Park to park safely.
Fans are advised to park in a well-lit area, tuck in wing mirrors, hide any valuables and only to park in official car parks.
“We want fans to enjoy football but stay safe. We would ask them to take care and make sure they keep their belongings secure,” said a statement issued by the council.
Parking by fans along the N5 is not recommended for health and safety reasons. There will be ample free car parking for fans within the environs of Castlebar itself.
