Young Sports Stars of the Year Award winner No. 15: Ciarán Gavin

Another Gaelic football star features next in our look at the Young Sports Stars of the Year Awards monthly winners.

In October, Ballintubber's return to the pedestal of Mayo senior club football came about due to the sucessful combination of youth and experience, and the role played by the younger players in winning the club's fourth county title was hugely significant and cannot be underestimated.

While the more experienced men stood tall right throughout the championship and their efforts have been acknowledged and rewarded elsewhere, so many of the younger players played key roles in guiding Ballintubber through some tight finishes.

There were a number of young players who made huge contributions both in the Mayo championship and later in the Connaught campaign, but for his consistency, his workrate and the faith his manager put in him by selecting him on the starting 15 throughout the campaign, we felt the contribution of 20-year-old student Ciarán Gavin deserves recognition.
