Young Sports Stars of the Year Award winner No. 25: Hazel Finn

Next on the list in our look at the Merit Award winners in our Young Sports Stars of the Year Awards is an international basketball player from east Mayo.

The sport continued to hit the heights in 2018, particularly at international level where one young lady in particular displayed her array of skills against some of the best in Europe.

Hazel Finn was selected to the Irish Under 16 Basketball team to contest the European Championships, where the Kiltimagh player put in a number of big performances in all her games as Irish women's basketball continues to compete with the best in Europe.

In their group games Ireland had wins over Kosovo and Switzerland, and the student from St. Louis Community School in Kiltimagh played a kely role in securing those wins, scoring 15 in a cracking game against Switzerland which Ireland won 58-55.

Ireland lost out on a quarterfinal place when they lost to Israel but in their classification games, which completed a long week in Montenegro, Ireland defeated Great Britain before losing by a basket to Slovakia (49-47).
