Notable victories for Mayo clubs

There were notable victories for Castlebar Celtic and Westport United in Schoolboys FAI competitions this afternoon.

The Celtic Under 13s secured a very good 2-0 win against Aisling Annacotty in Limerick to reach the last four of the SFAI Skechers Cup, in which they will play Cork outfit Douglas Hall.

Westport United's Under 13s were also in action at the last eight stage but despite a strong effort, they were beaten 5-1 by Leixlip United.

There was much better news for the Westport club at the same stage of the Under 14 SFAI Skechers Cup as they scored a memorable - and thoroughly deserved - 3-1 win against the might of Shamrock Rovers.

Today's wins for Celtic and Westport confirm Mayo representation in the last four of the SFAI Skechers Cup at Under 13 and Under 14 level, and there's a chance for Ballina Town to join them as the north Mayo club's Under 12 team go to Aisling Annacotty tomorrow for a quarterfinal contest.

The SFAI Skechers Cup semi-finals are due to be played on the weekend of April 6/7.
