Funding for proposed Great Western Lakes tourism route
LEADER funding of €4,875 is being allocated to support a feasibility study for the development of a tourist driving route, as a spur from the Wild Atlantic Way, which would circle the Great Western Lakes.
The funding for the projects will be provided by Minister Michael Ring’s department and directed through the Mayo LEADER Local Action Group.
Minister Ring explained how the initiative would draw visitors inland from the Wild Atlantic Way to these beautiful lakes.
The proposed route begins in Leenane and travels through Maam, Cong, Ballinrobe, Partry and Tourmakeady, before ending in Westport, and would help areas along the route to benefit from the success of the Wild Atlantic Way.
