Swinford students champion positive mental health
THE new Scoil Muire agus Pádraig, Swinford, football jersey was recently launched together with the Mindspace Mayo logo.
A huge help in the quest to change the perception of youth mental health in Mayo, Scoil Muire agus Pádraig and Mindspace Mayo are leading the way as advocates of positive mental health in Mayo.
Schools have the ability to educate the community on the power of positive mental health and to ensure people understand the importance of seeking help and understanding the services available to them.
School principal Pat Dunne applauded the work the school is doing for positive mental health promotion.
“We strongly believe that talking about mental health is the game changer and through this campaign we aim to encourage and foster more conversation about the importance of young people’s mental health,” he said.
“Mental health is a key community focus area for the school, and is a cause we will continue to champion through our partnership with Mindspace.”
Mindspace project manager Peadar Gardiner said it was fantastic to see Scoil Muire agus Pádraig talking about mental health and setting a wonderful example.
“We’re extremely proud of our partnership with Scoil Muire agus Pádraig and grateful for all the work the school does within the community to raise awareness of youth mental health. In football, teamwork is everything, and the strength of the team is in its support of each individual.
“These jerseys illustrate how that support carries on and off the pitch, and have the potential to bring some very important conversations out into the open.”
