New Mayo swimming pool access road needs traffic flow solution
THE new Castlebar swimming pool and gymnasium is to open to the public in early April, a member of Mayo County Council has confirmed.
Councillor Cyril Burke welcomed the completion of the facility which is a wonderful addition to the town's sporting infrastructural amenities.
However, he is concerned the access road to both the pool and Lough Lannagh Holiday Village will need to be reviewed to ensure traffic flows well at the location.
He stated: "At peak times I can see major delays getting in and out of those locations, particularly turning for the Westport Road end as cars exit from the pool.
"There is already a problem at the location and this will escalate when the pool is fully operational over the coming months.”
Councillor Burke called on the engineering section of Mayo County Council to look at the issue to come up with an engineering solution or to at least consider options.
He will raise the matter at the next meeting of the Castlebar Municipal District.
