Passing of former Mayo State Solicitor
THE death has taken place of Liam MacHale, Downhill Road, Ballina.
The deceased, whose law practice was based at Pearse Street in the town, served as State Solicitor for Mayo during a distinguished career.
As well as being an outstanding professional held in the highest regard within legal circles, Liam was an affable and good-natured personality.
News of his passing is widely mourned in Ballina and across the county.
He is survived by his wife Jacqueline, sons and daughters John, James, Liam, Elisabeth, Catherine, Jenny and Jacquie, 16 grandchildren, sons-in-law John and Andy, daughters-in-law Eimer, Shiyi and Patricia, brother Seán, sister-in-law Rosemary, nieces Lisa, Rachel, nephew Seán, Dockry cousins, extended family and friends, to whom sympathy is tendered
His remains will be reposing at McGowans Funeral Home, Ballina on Friday evening from 5.30 until 8 p.m..
Funeral will arrive at St. Muredach's Cathedral on Saturday morning for Mass of the Resurrection at 11 a.m. followed by burial in Leigue Cemetery, Ballina.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
Paying tribute to him, local Councillor Annie May Reape said Liam was a true gentleman who served his profession exceptionally well over a long number of years.
“Ballina has lost a fine person and I extend my deepest sympathy to the bereaved family on their sad loss,” she added.
