Doubt over second phase of Breaffy sewerage scheme
A CASTLEBAR elected reprsentative has called on residents in Breaffy to sign up for the new sewerage scheme in the village before the deadline closes on Monday, April 1, or the second stage of the scheme may not go ahead.
Councillor Cyril Burke said: “We need to have an uptake of 70 per cent of residents to sign up to the new scheme or the second phase will not go ahead, currently there are only in the region of 50 per cent of residents signed up to the new scheme.
“The scheme is something that has been fought for, for a long time in the village and it would be a shame for the second stage of the scheme not to go ahead. The cost of joining the scheme is €1,000 which is great value for residents.
“There could be a significantly higher costs into the future for people to upgrade their systems and the people of Breaffy will never get an opportunity like this again once the new regulator puts the new charging regime in place.”
