Facility for disabled anglers opens on River Moy
A €200,000 facility for disabled anglers has opened at Straide on the River Moy.
The ceremony was performed by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, and the Minister of State for Natural Resources, Community Affairs and Digital Development, Sean Canney.
The wheelchair-friendly project was partly funded by Inland Fisheries Ireland to the tune of €150,000.
It consists of a 76-metre long fishing platform, along with a changing room and car park.
Minister Ring praised the East Mayo Anglers' Association for their work for the past ten years
Lester Cassidy, a 40-year-old angler from Kilcock in Co. Kildare, broke his back 21 years ago during a scaffolding accident.
He told RTÉ News the new facility means he can pursue his hobby without any restrictions.
