Honour for judge with Tourmakeady links
TRIBUTE has been paid to James McGing, a Chicago native with close links to Tourmakeady, who is a Circuit Court Judge in Chicago.
Judge McGing was honoured by his peers at the Celtic Legal Society’s annual St. Patrick’s Day luncheon in Chicago.
Minister Michael Ring, who spoke at the event, said it was an honour to be involved in the occasion, which was clearly a very proud day for James McGing and his family.
He said of Judge McGing: “He is a highly respected judge in the city and a leading figure in Chicago’s Irish American community.
“Judge McGing is immensely proud of his strong Mayo roots and, like many Irish descendants, has made a remarkable contribution to the city of Chicago. At the event he spoke passionately about his Irish American identity and his strong connection to Mayo.
“During my visit, I was struck by how active and influential the Irish network is in Chicago and by the very strong Mayo representation among that community. I met so many people who are proud descendants of the county.
“I was delighted, as a representative of the Irish government, to be able to engage with this community as they celebrated their Irish heritage.
“I commend Judge McGing on his recognition by his peers and wish him and his family the very best for the future.”
