Mayo ambulance staff leave picket line to attend emergency

AMBULANCE personnel at the Sacred Heart Hospital in Castlebar left the picket line today in order to attend an emergency.

The staff had been on strike for a fifth day in an ongoing battle with the HSE to secure recognition of the trade union, NASRA, as well as full negotiating rights.

But they abandoned their protest for a period of time to respond to an emergency call.

Many Mayo elected representatives are annoyed by the ongoing failure by the HSE and Department of Health to meet the fundamental demands of the workers who provide such an important and responsible service in communities across the country.

Workers were also on the picket line at Ballina District Hospital today.
