End of an era in Castlebar

TODAY saw the end of an era for Main Street in Castlebar.

Earlier, work began on the demolition of the old shopping arcade and Browneville Flats.

The demolition was a curiosity for many passersby in the Market Square car park throughout the day, with lots of conversations and memories of days gone by in the arcade and adjoining flats.

At yesterday's Castlebar Municipal District meeting, approval was given for an exchange of lands between Mayo County Council and Jackita Ltd. at the Market Square car park.
