Mayo fans mourn passing of 'St. Patrick' John Durcan
ONE of Mayo's most iconic and colourful characters has passed away.
Westport native John Durcan, better known as 'St. Patrick', was a popular figure at Mayo GAA events over the years and became particularly active around championship time with his customary St. Patrick's robe and his famous bodhran, which he brought everywhere.
A genial sort of a man, he wore his love for Mayo football on his sleeve and was very passionate and serious about the green and red of his native county.
His great love was to get in amongst the Mayo faitfhful before a big match and get the atmosphere going.
He travelled all over country and beyond in support of Mayo and his passing will be mourned by his family, the GAA in general, but by Mayo supporters in particular who developed an affection for such a colourful character.
May he rest in peace.
