New dedicated courts Service of EU Documents Unit
THE Courts Service has established a new Service of EU Documents Unit in the newly created Courts Service centralised office in the Castlebar Court Office.
The new office is located in Castlebar Courthouse and began operating yesterday (Monday).
The office is being set up to process documents for service pursuant to Regulation (EC) No. 1393/2007 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 13 November, 2007, concerning service in the member states of judicial and extrajudicial documents in civil or commercial matters.
The unit will act as the receiving agency and transmitting agency for the entire country. All service requests will be dealt with by the unit from April 15.
The Courts Service say the creation of a dedicated unit will greatly benefit users by allowing for the development of expert knowledge in the dedicated unit and enhancing the quality and consistency on the handling of these applications for the users; providing a single point of contact for all queries in this regard; having measurable KPIs on this function and prioritise any urgent childcare applications; and allowing for the close monitoring of the development of the function following the recent High Court judgement (Grovit v Jan Jansen, 2018) and adequate resourcing of same.
The county registrars in each local court office remained as the transmitting and receiving agency until Friday last, with each office responsible for seeing through to conclusion every request received up to and including that date.
All new requests for service of EU documents under EU regulation 1393/2007 from Monday, April 15, are to be sent to the new Service of EU Documents Unit, Courts Service Centralised Office, Combined Court Office, The Courthouse, Castlebar.
