New York GAA deny speculation that Mayo clash is 'sold out'
THE New York GAA Board has taken steps to deny social media claims that Sunday's Connacht SFC opener against Mayo at Gaelic Park is already sold out.
Laurence McGrath, chairman, issued an assurance that tickets will still be sold on a first come first served basis from 8.30 a.m. on Sunday.
A capacity crowd of 6,500 supporters is expected.
He said: "The game is not sold out. Those rumours got blown up on social media.
"Supporters can still come to the park on Sunday morning and get a ticket. But how long that will last, I don't know."
McGrath confirmed has been conducting research into the number of Mayo fans travelling to the game by consulting with airlines including Aer Lingus.
Once supporters gain access to the ground early Sunday, morning, they cannot leave the ground.
The Mayo match does not start until 2.15 p.m., meaning supporters who purchased tickets on the day will be waiting over five hours for the game to start.
Renovations of the ground, including the building of a new clubhouse, will start next week and are due to be completed by next March.
