Durcan not seeking re-election

CASTLEBAR Councillor Frank Durcan will not be contesting the Mayo County Council elections on May 24.

Candidates had until Saturday afternoon to submit their nominations.

Lists of candidates posted on the windows of Mayo County Council's HQ in Castlebar show his name is not on the list of 17 election hopefuls in the area.

He is one of two sitting councillors in the Castlebar area who are not going forward for re-election. Councillor Henry Kenny is also retiring.

Frank Durcan started his political career in 1967. He was a Fine Gael councillor but later became an Independent.
