Bangladesh native Kamal has Mayo political ambition
Labour Party candidate in the Castlebar area, Kamal Uddin, is contesting his third election in Mayo, having run in the 2014 local elections and the 2016 general election as an independent.
He is delighted to be carrying the Labour Party flag on this occasion and bidding to win a seat for the party for the first time since Johnny Mee retired from politics in 2009.
Uddin is originally from Bangladesh but moved to Mayo nearly 20 years ago and lives in Castlebar with his wife and three brothers and he runs a small business with his family in Kiltimagh.
His retail background gives him the insight and experience to help small business owners and workers if he is elected.
His other priorities include doing more to help combat climate change and helping Castlebar become a greener and safer place to live.
He also wants to see the town centre prosper in a planned fashion and believes there is an opening for more social outlets for young people.
Uddin said he also wants to see the delivery of a strong public housing model in the Castlebar area along with the continued delivery of improved community infrastructure, and to see improvements in services across rail, road and cycleways.
"I am very passionate about my adopted community," he added.
