Exit poll boost for Mayo Green Party candidate

AN exit poll published tonight suggests Mayo Green Party candidate Saoirse McHugh is a contender for a seat in the Midlands North West constituency of tge European Parliament elections.

The Red C poll was commissioned by RTÈ and TG4 and represents a major boost for the Achill woman.

She has a rating of 12 per cent, three points behind outgoing MEP Matt Carthy (SF) on 15. 

Outgoing FG MEP Mairead McGuinness is on course to top the poll on 25% with her Mayo running mate, Maria Walsh, on 10%, the same as Luke Ming Flanagan, an outgoing MEP.

Peter Casey is on 7% and Brendan Smith (FF) on 6%.

The survey also indicated that Fine Gael and Fianna Fàil will finish neck-and-neck in the Mayo County Council elections.
