Remuneration increases for Mayo elected representatives
THE 30 newly-elected representatives to Mayo County Council, who met for the first time yesterday, can look forward to increased remuneration over the next five years.
The government has introduced new, optional vouched expenses up to a maximum of €5,000 per annum.
Councillors may opt for this in place of the existing expenses allowance of €2,500 per annum.
Their representational payment, subject to tax and linked to senators' salary, has been increased to €17,010 and backdated to October 1 last.
There is also a new support allowance of €1,000 per annum.
Further increases are imminent in line with adjustments arising from the Public Service Stability Agreement 2018-2020.
