Mayo Civil Defence to receive new off road vehicle
THE Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, has announced that the government has approved funding for a new four wheel drive jeep for Mayo Civil Defence.
The jeep has the capacity to respond to national emergencies and extreme weather events.
Minister Ring said: “I’m delighted to confirm that Mayo Civil Defence is to receive a new Ford Ranger Crewcab Pickup Vehicle in the coming weeks in order to support its excellent work.
“The purchase of vehicle has been facilitated through my Department’s Dormant Accounts Fund as part of a €500,000 national allocation to invest in the Civil Defence’s vehicle fleet.
“The vehicle will improve the four wheel capability of Mayo Civil Defence and further improve its ability to support the Principal Response Agencies.
“Mayo Civil Defence provides invaluable support for the community and provides assistance to the local authority, the HSE, the National Ambulance Service and An Garda Síochána, especially in times of adverse weather or when dealing with local crises.
“These new vehicles will be an additional resource for those who give their time and work so hard in times of emergency such as severe weather events to keep people safe. Their provision is also an important acknowledgement of the work of volunteers and their ongoing commitment to Civil Defence”.
The cost of the vehicle is €31,403.96 including VAT.
