Castlebar darts scene mourns loss of gentleman Gerhard
The death has occurred unexpectedly at his home of Gerhard Sestits, 61 Garryduff Drive, Castlebar, and formerly of Graz, Austria.
He will be sadly missed by his loving family and his many friends in Castlebar.
Gerhard enjoyed playing darts with his many friends in Castlebar and further afield.
A lovely tribute has been paid to him on Facebook page of the Cobweb Bar, Linenhall Street, Castlebar, a pub he represented in the Castlebar Town Darts League.
It stated: “It’s with heavy hearts we say farewell to one of our most gentle friends, Gerhard Sestits, who passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
“He was held in such high regard by staff, customers and fellow dart throwers, both men’s and women’s darts. He was an all-round part of the Cobweb team and we’ll miss him immensely.
“Always there to lend a hand and stoke the fire before getting stuck into the crossword with a cup of coffee. English not being his first language, we had many a laugh with some of his answers.
“Whilst darts was his first game of choice, when the league was on a break Gerhard kept busy by playing the game of 25.
“He may be gone from us but he left us with lots of stories and great memories. He left his mark.”
His remains will be reposing at the Kilcoyne Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar, on Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m.
Private cremation takes place at a later date.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
