Woman arrested over suspected murder of Mayo man in Africa
A WOMAN has been arrested after a Mayo man died in a suspected murder in Malawi, The Irish Mirror is reporting.
Terry Martin (Ted) Collins, Ballina, died in the city of Zomba last April in what was originally thought to be a case of malaria.
But family members were suspicious and asked for an autopsy to be carried out and the results revealed he had been poisoned.
Marie Cleary, his granddaughter, has appealed to the Irish Embassy authorities to help the family get justice for Ted.
She said: "He was a lovely, caring man and did not deserve to died like he did.
"He deserves justice and that is what we are trying to get for him.
"Ted was in Malawi because he wanted to help local people. He had owned a coal and furniture business in Ballina and we are devastated over what happened."
His funeral ceremonies took place in Ballina.
The Irish Mirror confirmed that police in Zomba arrested a woman in recent days on suspicion of poisoning Mr. Collins.
