Death of Mayo priest who recently celebrated his 50th ordination jubilee

THE death has occurred of Fr. Michael Cawley, Amana, Ballina, and formerly of Tullylinn, Culleens, Co. Sligo.

The deceased, retired priest of Templeboy, Co. Sligo, recently celebrated his 50th ordination jubilee at a ceremony at St. Muredach's Cathedral, Ballina.

A popular and widely respected personality, he served as a missionary in Brazil for many years.

He is deeply regretted by his sister Mary (Wexford), brothers Gerry (Clontarf), Eamonn (Tullylinn and Behymore) and Walter (Ballina), sisters-in-law Orla, Margaret and Connie, uncle and aunt Tom and Mary Lynn (Faranoo), nephews, nieces, Bishop John Fleming and the priests of Killala diocese, relatives and friends, dedicated helpers Sharon Kelly and P.J. Melia, to whom sympathy is tendered.

His remains will be reposing at St. Muredach's Cathedral today (Monday) from 4.30 to 7 p.m., concluding with evening prayers and rite of reception.

Funeral Mass takes place on Tuesday at 12 noon followed by burial in the grounds of the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Templeboy, Co. Sligo.
