Mayo woman tipped to contest Senate by-election

ACHILL Green Party representative, Saoirse McHugh, is being tipped to contest a by-election for a vacant Senate seat in September.

According to a report in the Irish Examiner, party leader Eamon Ryan TD wants her to run in the election to replace the party's newly-elected MEP Grace O'Sullivan on the agricultural panel.

Ms. McHugh made a major impression in last May's European Parliament elections with a fine performance in the Midlands North West constituency.

She is also expected to be a candidate in the Mayo constituency in the next general election.
