Mayo senator witnessed forged note being dispensed from bank ATM machine

A MAYO Oireachtas member has revealed he was in a bank recently where an ATM machine gave out a forged €50 note.

Senator Paddy Burke elaborated: “When the customer tried to deposit it into another account through the machine, it rejected the note.

“I suppose the customer must go through a rigmarole of reporting to the gardaí and to the bank. At the end of the day, would the bank not take responsibility for that?

“Even though its machine gave out the money, the bank refused to allow it to be deposited in another account.

“Would the bank have to own up as well? The bank, although not complicit, gave the note out in this case."

Senator Burke raised the matter at an Oireachtas committee.
