Whirlpool recalling tumble dryers over fire safety fears
Whirlpool is to recall certain models of tumble dryers over fire safety fears.
The safety warning product recall notice was posted on the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission's website this morning, and the recall will begin in Ireland on August 5.
Tumble dyers from the brands Indesit, Hotpoint, Creda, Swan and Proline made between 2004 and September 2015 are included in the recall.
Consumers who own dryers in this category, and which have not already been modified by the manufacturer, are advised to "unplug it immediately and stop using it until it has been made safe."
People are being advised to check the serial and model numbers of their tumble dryers, which are located inside the door and frame of the machine.
They can then check if their dryer is affected by visiting www.indesithotpointsafety.com or calling 1800 804 320.
People affected will have a number of repair or replacement options.
Consumers will be able to choose a replacement dryer free of charge, a fire safety upgrade to their current model carried out at home, or a "heavily discounted upgrade" to a higher specification model than the "free replacement" dryer.
They will also have the option of returning their dryer to get a refund of up to €165, depending on the age of the appliance.
