Parsons makes miraculous return for Donegal game
Mayo have received a remarkable boost ahead of their crucial All-Ireland senior football championship Super 8s clash with Donegal in Elverys MacHale Park, Castlebar.
Midfielder Tom Parsons will be in Mayo's 26-man squad for the contest, which throws in at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday) evening.
The Charlestown Sarsfields midfielder received a horrific knee injury during the Connaught senior football championship opener against Galway in May last year.
There were fears at the time that the injury might signal the end of his career. However, all along Parsons has been steadfast in his determination to return to the green and red in 2019.
Last year, when the reality of his horrific injury sunk in, Parsons was always determined to get back playing.
“It’s one of these injuries that you really need to take on a week-to-week basis and not set yourself too difficult a goal,” he said at the time. “But I am very determined that I will get back playing with Mayo next summer and I will do everything in my power to do that,” he added.
Now Parsons' fiercely determined bid to return to the Mayo colours is set to become a reality. While he will more than likely not start the game, the fact that he will be listed among the match-day substitutes means he is available to play a part in the game if Mayo need him.
