Mayo see off Donegal to reach All-Ireland semi-finals
Mayo are Croke Park bound! The team that refuses to die beat Donegal by 1-14 to 1-10 in their final Super 8s game before a crowd of over 27,000 at Elverys MacHale Park, Castlebar, this evening.
Mayo were 1-7 to 0-4 ahead at the break, Cilian O'Connor getting the vital touch to score the goal and put the home side seemingly in command.
However, a Michael Murphy penalty had Donegal back in the game in the second half and they had reduced the deficit to just one point on 46 minutes.
Mayo regrouped though and late scores from O'Connor (two frees) and Andy Moran (two from play) got them over the line on a night when Donegal kicked some dreadful wides, 14 in all and 10 of those in the second half.
Mayo scorers: Cillian O'Connor 1-4, P. Durcan 0-3, A. Moran, J. Carr 0-2 each, J. Doherty, C. Barrett, K. McLoughlin 0-1 each.
Donegal scorers: M. Murphy 1-4, P. McBrearty, D. Ó Baoill, N. O'Donnell 0-2 each.
