Dublin's dismantling of Mayo 'scary'
MAYO'S bid to end Dublin's push for an historic five consecutive All-Ireland SFC titles has come up a long way short at Croke Park, losing by 3-14 to 1-10.
Despite leading by two points at half time after producing a composed display of pressure football, James Horan's charges were pulled asunder by two Con O'Callaghan goals early in the second half.
It was a devastating double blow which drained the Mayo players of their energy and confidence, albeit Lee Keegan seizing a consolation goal for his side.
Afterwards, RTÈ GAA analyst Joe Brolly described Dublin's display as 'scary'.
He said he could not see either of the other semi-finalists, Tyrone or Kerry, seriously challenging Dublin in the final in three weeks time.
"What they did to Mayo was a blitzkrieg. For all of Mayo's good work in the first half, they were completely overrun when Dublin turned it on," he added.
Fellow panelist Tomas Ò Se said Dublin ability to swiftly kill off a game in such clinical fashion left him worried for his native county, Kerry.
Colm O'Rourke stated the match marked the end of an era for a number of Mayo players who he expected to retire.
