Two sailors rescued from Clew Bay by helicopter
TWO sailors who got into difficulties in Clew Bay today have been brought to safety by Coastguard Helicopter Rescue 118.
They got into trouble while sailing a small craft 1.5 nautical miles off Old Head, Louisburgh.
Lifeguards at the beach raised the alert and the helicopter arrived at the scene shortly afterwards.
The sailors were brought to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar and are reported to be doing fine after their ordeal.
Emergency back-up was provided by members of Achill Island Lifeboat unit who towed the boat ashore.
