New pedestrian crossing serving Westport schools

A NEW pedestrian crossing has been installed on the Newport Road in Westport.

It became operational this week as schools in the area opened for the new term.

Said Councillor Brendan Mulroy: “After a lot of campaigning, it is great to see the new pedestrian crossing up and running on the Newport Road. It will make it a lot safer for the pupils of Holy Trinity NS and Scoil Phadriag NS to be able to access their schools safely.

Thanks to everyone for their support on this.”

Councillor Mulroy said attention will now turn to addressing the pedestrian crossing issue in Newport.

And in response to a call for a crossing at Deerpark, Westport, he confirmed that a traffic count is being carried on that crossing point.
