Champagne corks popping at Castlebar Golf Club after historic ladies double
THE champagne corks are popping in Castlebar Golf Club this evening.
It follows the return home from Gort GC of the club's victorous Connacht Junior Cup and Connacht Minor Cup winning teams - a historic double for the county town.
The junior cup team, captained by Beverley Flynn, defeated Athlone in their decider by three and a half to one and a half.
The playing team members were Connie White, Sheila Baynes, Carmel Moran, Kirsty Kelly and Leah Kerr.
The minor team, skippered by Gina Kelly, overcame Co. Longford by 5-0 in their final.
In action were Margaret Tuffy, Cora Mulroy, Nicola Sheridan, Mary McKeon and Ann O'Sullivan.
Both teams have qualified for the National ILGU finals in Knightsbrook, Trim, Co. Meath, on the last weekend in September.
The club is in with a chance of completing a unique treble this weekend when the men's JB Carr team, captained by Padraig Corrigan, play their All-Ireland final in Woodbridge, Co. Wicklow, tomorrow morning.
Castlebar has also qualified for the national finals of Pierce Purcell Shield in Westport GC later this month.
