Shortage of Mayo electric car charging points highlighted
A Fine Gael member of Mayo County Council has called on the authority to provide in-house charging points for their own electric vehicles in order to free up the two public charging point outside Aras an Chontae on the Mall in Castlebar.
Councillor Ger Deere elaborated: “While it is great that the council has recently purchased two electric vehicles and that we are all being encouraged to change over to electric vehicles, the problem is we need more public charging points around the town and county.
“Castlebar has only four public charging points, two outside Aras an Chontae on the Mall and two at Market Square car park, only one of which is operational.
“Last week we had over 1,600 people attending the European and World Tug of War event in Breaffy House Resort and the issue of charging points was highlighted to me by a number of visitors, in particular the fact some people couldn’t use the points as local authority vehicles were using them.
“I believe the council should provide charging points in their own yards as to free up public points outside the building.”
