Fresh concern over intimidation at Mayo playground
ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour on the streets of Castlebar has been resolved, but it is now an issue in the town playground, where people have been intimidated.
The garda scheme to have two members out and about the streets on their bikes had been an 'excellent' pilot, said Councillor Michael Kilcoyne. It had corrected the issues on the street very fast.
However, they were only there for 39 or 40 hours a week and he wondered what was happening in the other hours. The gardaí needed more resources.
David Tuomey told a Mayo Joint Policing Committee meeting that a large number of vulnerable people living in Castlebar had informed him they did not feel safe down town in the afternoon.
He recognised the change with the community gardaí.
However, people were being intimidated in the playground beside Springfield.
In a recent incident a person was threatened that they would be 'seen again'.
Councillor Kilcoyne said action needs to be taken in the playgrounds.
