Four men in court in connection with Mayo burglary
Four men appeared before a special sitting of Castlebar District Court today in connection with an alleged burglary in Mayo.
Bail was refused by Judge Seamus Hughes in respect of three of the accused – Shane Byrne (30), Kiltaltown Path, Jobstown, Tallaght, Dublin 22, Dean Maguire (27), Tree Park Drive, Tallaght, Dublin, and Daniel Lawlor (29), Kiltaltown Road, Jobstown, Tallaght.
A fourth accused, Gerry Wall (19), Fortunestown Crescent, Dublin 24, was granted bail by Judge Hughes on strict conditions.
Bail was sought by solicitor Lorraine Stephens on behalf of Byrne, Maguire and Lawlor but the applications were refused following objections by gardai.
All four defendants appeared in court today charged with entering a home at Facefield, Claremorris, on September 20 and committing an arrestable offence under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Fraud Offences Act 2011.
Giving evidence in respect of the objections to the bail applications, Detective Sergeant Michael Doherty and Garda Damian Ryder both outlined the house in Facefield was unoccupied on Friday last when €1,000 cash, €500 in coins, a cheque for €500 and a Revenue cheque for €243 was stolen.
The court heard that when the owner of the house returned home, he found the door unlocked, pictures knocked off the wall and a bedroom door forced open.
Wall was remanded on bail to appear before Castlebar District Court on November 5.
The other three were remanded in custody to appear at Harristown Court on Friday next, September 27.
