Call for visitor centre in Newport to honour legendary figures
THE cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council has called on the authority to start the process of identifying a premises in Newport to house a visitor centre to honour the lives of Princess Grace O'Malley and artist Harry Clarke.
Councillor Brendan Mulroy stated: "Newport is 300 years old this year and this investment, along with the sewerage treatment plant that is planned, will continue to keep the town to the forefront as a tourist location.”
He has also called for new parking facilities and a pedestrian crossing in the town centre.
