MAYO STYLE AWARDS 2019: Profiles of finalists in Best Hair Salon category

LEADING public relations guru Lesley Emerson profiles the three finalists in Best Hair Salon category of The Connaught Telegraph Mayo Style Awards at Breaffy House Resort next Friday night.

Hair and Beauty by Helen, Balla

Five years ago Helen McGuinn set up a small salon in Balla and from small beginnings has built to a thriving hair and beauty salon with no less than 10 stylists and therapists. Last year they moved to new bigger premises and business is booming.

The warm and inviting salon offers a very broad range of services and always stays up with international trends.

The two hair stylists are constantly retraining and use top brands like AlfaParf whose Lissie Design 12 week blow dry is very popular.

They specialise in upstyles to complete the wedding packages which Helen is well known for.

The beauty section has spacious treatment rooms as well as a nail bar and two-seat pedicure area.

All therapists are fully trained in the new DIBI Milano skin care line. The salon offers a variety of tanning products, Waxperts waxing, shellac nails and of course a full make up service as well.

Turlough Hair and Beauty

Suzanne Gibbons took over Turlough Hair & Beauty four years ago. She feels it is essential to be different from other salons, to offer treatments and products that are not available elsewhere and to always focus on quality.

Customer Service is really important to her and the salon is open seven days a week with late opening on Thursday and Friday nights until 8pm. Early appointments are also available on request.

Turlough Hair & Beauty is an official L’Oréal salon and offers everything from cutting and colouring to perms, upstyles and treatments.

They also cut men’s and children’s hair. On the beauty side the salon offers Dermalogica facial and body treatments as well as massage, eye treatments, threading, nail care, waxing, tanning and make up. They also offer bespoke bridal packages.

Hair by Kevin, Kilmaine

Hair by Kevin is a busy salon on the Ballinrobe Road in Kilmaine which attracts a clientele from as far away as Dublin.

The salon keeps a keen eye on trends and likes to keep ahead of other salons offering services like the 16 week blow dry and hair extensions which are not always available elsewhere. They also stock a sulphate free shampoo range – So Pure.

Events like the Galway Races see the salon booked to capacity with both ladies and men ensuring their crowning glory looks great on the big day. Hair By Kevin was included in the Top 100 Hair Salons in Ireland last month.

The salon uses Phorest Salon Software and have received 5 star ratings for two years in row. Kevin has recently added Emerald Beauty salon as an addition to their range of services.
