Mayo GAA draws line in sand in dispute
THE Mayo GAA County Board has drawn a line in the sand in a bitter row over funding raised for a new centre of excellence in Castlebar.
Dermot Butler, secretary, told a meeting of the board tonight there will be no further comments on the episode due to legal reasons.
At the centre of the row, which has rocked the sport, is the decision of the Mayo GAA International Supporters Foundation to withhold a sum of €250,000 raised for the Castlebar facility at a function in New York last May due to what it cited as concerns over governance issues within the board.
Mr. Butler confirmed the board has called a special meeting with its clubs next Monday to discuss the dispute in private with their delegates after issuing a request to the foundation that the €250,000 be submitted to the board.
He added the board regard Chairde Maigheo as the only fundraising arm of Mayo GAA.
No further statements will be issued until a resolution is reached in the impasse.
