Mayo GAA credit card use is explained

MAYO GAA County Board has responded to a query raised by a club in relation to the board members' use of credit cards.

Following a RTÉ report on credit cards being used by GAA organisations nationally, Kilfine GAA Club asked by letter what board members held a credit card in the name of the board, how much was spent monthly and what penalties were incurred for late payments.

Kevin O'Toole, treasurer, said no county board officer was in possession of a credit card under the name of the board.

“There is a credit card which is held in the administrators office and that is used to pay hospital bills for players, diesel or petrol is also paid for with the credit card and hotel bills for teams by arrangement with certain hotels,” he explained.

He added there was a limit of €3,000 on the card and all payments were met and no penalties incurred for late payments.
