Mayo on Ice is up and running ahead of Christmas

THE third annual Mayo on Ice skating rink Christmas attraction has been officially launched in Castlebar.

The ceremony was performed this evening by Councillor Michael Kilcoyne, cathaoirleach, Castlebar Municpal District.

He welcomed the big turnout and wished the promoter Brian McGee of Carousel Ireland Limited and Castlebar Chamber of Commerce every success with the initiative.

The special guest at the launch was Mayo ladies GAA star Kathryn Sullivan.

The rink will be open daily until Sunday, January 5, and bookings can be made online.

John Mulroy, president, Castlebar Chamber of Commecre, said it is fastantic to see the ice rink back in the county town for another festive season and he thanked the retail community for their support in making it happen again.

“It's all part of our overall objective to make the town the Christmas capital of the west for shopping, family recreation and entertainment," he added. 

Bernard Hughes, master of ceremonies, thanked the elected members and officials of Castlebar Municipal District for their support and members of Castlebar Concert Band for their attendance.

The ice rink is being sponsored by The Connaught Telegraph, First Choice Credit Union, Mayo County Council and Mid West Radio.
