Lidl planning new store in Claremorris

DISCOUNT retailer Lidl is planning to open a new supermarket in Claremorris.

If it gets the go ahead the new store could create up to 25 full-time jobs in the town.

Lidl Ireland GmbH have sought planning permission for a development at Kilcolman Road, Clare, Claremorris, for the construction of a discount foodstore supermarket with ancillary off-licence sales.

The proposal is for a single storey store measuring 2,268 sqm gross floor space with a nett retail sales area of 1,420 sqm, with car parking, signage, a free standing trolley bay and enclosure, refrigeration and air conditioning plant and equipment, roof mounted solar panels, cycle parking and pedestrian access.

The application for approval that has been submitted to Mayo County Council also includes the construction of a vehicular access road to the N60/Kilcolman Road serving the proposed development.

A previous application by the company for a supermarket in the town was withdrawn last year.
