Procedure agreed to correct Mayo GAA vote counting error
A PROCEDURE has been agreed to resolve a vote counting error that occurred at the Mayo County GAA Board convention last month.
Following tonight's Mayo County Board meeting, the venue for a special convention was announced.
The two Connacht Council positions on the County Board will be decided at a special convention to take place in Breaffy House Hotel on Monday January 27, at 7.30 p.m.
It was exclusively reported in The Connaught Telegraph a number of weeks ago that at the county convention, a procedural error resulted in a mistake being made in the election of the second Connacht Council position.
Ardnaree's Johnny O'Malley was elected, along with Bonniconlon's Vincent Neary, but had the voting been done correctly, The Neale's Johnny Hopkins would have placed ahead of him and put Mr. Hopkins as the second Connacht Council delegate.
This situation has been an unnecessary headache for new Mayo GAA County Board chairman Liam Mofatt, having come within two days of taking over at the helm.
But it will all come to a head in two weeks' time.
