Minister provides update on Mayo roads investment
THE Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, has provided an update on the progress of a number of vital road improvement and road safety schemes in County Mayo.
He said: “The government recently announced €32 million for the improvement and maintenance of regional and local roads in Mayo in 2020.
"Following on from this allocation, I have sought and received updates from Mayo County Council in relation to a number of vital road and pavement projects in our county.
“I’m delighted to be able to update people on a number of important projects which Mayo County Council aims to deliver or make significant progress on in 2020 and the funding allocated in order to make this happen.”
The update is as follows:
N17 R320 Junction Claremorris at Lisduff: €200,000 allocation for 2020. This safety scheme involves the introduction of a separated Junction to replace two existing junctions.
N59 Westport to Mulranny upgrade: €800,000 allocation for 2020. The project’s construction is being delivered incrementally through a series of minor improvement schemes.
N59 Kilmeena – Minor Works: €1 milllion allocation for 2020. This 3.2km section, which is part of the N59 Westport to Mulranny Scheme, should be completed by June of this year 2020.
N59 Newport to Derrada – Minor Works: €200,000 allocation for 2020. Detailed design and procurement process for this scheme, which is part of the N59 Westport to Mulranny Scheme, is due to progress this year.
N59 Roskeen to Derrada, Minor Works: This scheme, which is part of the N59 Westport to Mulranny Scheme, is due to progress to detailed design this year and will seek TII approval for procurement and contract award after this.
Pavement at Sandymount on N59: €149,000 allocation for 2020. This is a 400-metre pavement overlay project from the Westport to Newport road where the filling station has closed down.
N60 Ballynastanford to Facefield to Pavement: €1m allocation for 2020. This is a 2km pavement overlay contract east of the Beaten Path, Claremorris.
