TV political pundit revises his Mayo election prediction

VIRGIN Media and Newstalk political pundit Ivan Yates has revised his election prediction for the four-seat Mayo constituency.

Broadcaster Ivan Yates originally tipped Dara Calleary (FF), Michael Ring (FG), Lisa Chambers (FF) and Saoirse McHugh (Green Party) to take the seats in Mayo.

But he now believes that Sinn Féin's Rose Conway-Walsh will win a seat ahead of Ms. McHugh, leaving Fine Gael with one seat.

"If Rose is ever going to make it, this is her time (due to the Sinn Fein surge)," he stated.

Yates stated the transfers from Ms. McHugh will prove vital in giving Sinn Féin the seat over Fine Gael's Michelle Mulherin.

His prediction on the outcome of the election is Fianna Fáil (60), Fine Gael (32), Sinn Fein (25), Independents (18), Green Party (10), Labour Party (7), Solidarity - People Before Profit (5), Social Democrats (2) and Aontú (1)
