July winner represented Ireland in three sports in 2019
The July winner in the Mayo Young Sports Stars Awards is making a splash in a number of disciplines.
Maeve Gallagher continues to develop not just as one of Mayo's finest young athletes, but one of Ireland's top triathletes.
The 18-year-old Leaving Certificate student from Swinford, who attends St. Joseph's Secondary School, Castlebar, had an extremely successful 2019, when she made history as she became the first Irish athlete to represent Ireland in three different sports in three European championships.
In May, she represented Triathlon Ireland in the European Triathlon Championship in Belgium and had a fantastic race in this highly competitive event to secure an 11th place finish.
In July, Maeve represented Cycling Ireland in the European Cycling Championships in Holland and despite crashing twice, she still managed to finish the road race and secure a 25th place finish.
Finally, she represented Athletics Ireland in the European Cross Country Championship in Lisbon, Portugal, in December.
A former winner of The Connaught Telegraph overall Female Athlete of the Year Award (Melissa Patterson Cup), Maeve could be named for a number of months such were her achievements last year.
