Mayo athlete crowned national champion

BALLINROBE athlete Sarah Quinn has captured the Irish National Indoor senior women’s 60 meters hurdles title at the Irish Life Health senior championships held in National Arena in Abbotstown today.

This was a magnificent achievement for the 21-year-old Ballinrobe athlete who is sure now to set her sights on qualifying for the Olympics.

Success isn’t new to Sarah as she has won many national titles at underage level and now has reached the top as the nations top 60 meters hurdles athlete.

A former pupil of Ballinrobe Community School, Sarah is now studying in NUIG.

Daughter of TJ and Assumpta Quinn, Main Street, Ballinrobe, Sarah comes from a sporting background.

Her uncles Noel and Ray Connelly from Holymount were former Mayo Gaelic football senior stars. Indeed, Noe captained Mayo to National League success and, along with Pat Holmes, managed Mayo Under 21s to All-Ireland success and brought the county senior team to within inches of winning the All-Ireland.

Sarah is also niece of former Mayo County Board chairman Mike Connelly.

A member of the renowned St. Colman’s South Mayo AC in Claremorris, Sarah looks destined for future major success in her chosen sport.

Yesterday, Michaela Walsh, Swinford AC, captured gold in the shot putt final.
