Nurse position to be filled on Mayo island despite fears

THE Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring, has welcomed the assurance by the HSE that the position of Public Health Nurse on Inishturk will be filled.

He explained: “I have been in discussions with senior management in the HSE regarding the position of the nurse on Inishturk.

“I have been assured that this position will be filled with recruitment taking place as soon as possible to replace the nurse for the people of Inishturk.

“I have been given a guarantee that the position will be advertised and filled and I intend to keep the pressure on the HSE to ensure that the people of Inishturk will have access to a nurse on the island.”

There had been fears that the position was being left vacant due to HSE cuts.
