Mayo cathaoirleach not to attend events for foreseeable future

THE cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council has announced he will not be attending public events for the foreseeable future.

In a statement this evening, Councillor Brendan Mulroy explained: "In light of the ever changing situation with the coronavirus and the warning from the Word Health Organisation, I have decided not to accept any invites or attend any gathering as chairman of Mayo County Council for the foreseeable future.

"I am conscious as chairman I am always moving from one gathering to another and this places people at risk.

"This is not a overreaction but the reality of an ever changing situation and a chance to show some leadership as chairman.
